The Archdiocese realizes that work does not encompass everything that you do in life. We strive to offer a generous number of holidays days as well as vacation days. We also offer both sick and personal time to use for unexpected events in your life. Below is a brief description of our holidays, vacation, sick, and personal days. These descriptions do not encompass the entire policy for each of their respective sections. For more detailed information, please refer to your employee handbook or call HR at 312-534-5360.

 Current Work/Life Balance Benefits

Holidays The number and choice of paid holidays are to be determined locally by the parish, school or Pastoral Center, and are made available to all full-time and benefits eligible part-time employees. Holidays for benefits eligible part-time employees are compensated in accordance with their regular work schedules for those days. Eligible employees who are required to work on a paid holiday are to be given an alternate day off with pay within a given time frame as determined locally.

Vacation Days - The Archdiocese offers paid vacation days to all benefit eligible employees. Vacation days are as follows:

Non-Exempt (hourly) Employees: 2 weeks after 1 year, 3 weeks after 5 years, and 4 weeks after 15 years

Exempt (salary) Employees: 3 weeks after 1 year, 4 weeks after 5 years.

Vacation benefits are allocated on January 1st for the entire calendar year, based on service as of that date. Employees with less than 1 year of service as of January 1st will have one day of vacation if non-exempt, and 1 1/2 days of vacation if exempt in the next calendar year for each whole month worked prior to January 1st.

Teachers and other school staff have their vacation built into the school calender.

Sick Days - Benefit eligible employees receive 10 paid sick days per year. Unused sick days accumulate from year to year, up to a maximum of 120 days. Sick days are available immediately. In the first year, new hires are eligible for as many paid sick days as there are whole months remaining in the calendar year.

Personal Days - Benefit eligible employees receive 2 paid personal days per year. These days can be used for any reason, subject to supervisor approval. New full-time employees and benefits eligible part-time employees will not enjoy this benefit until the beginning of the next benefits year following their date of hire (i.e. July 1 or January 1 as determined locally). Teachers and principals will need to refer to their OCE policies, for further explanation of how this benefit applies to them.
