Short Term Disability Highlights

  • Open to all benefit eligible employees earning at least $15,000 annually,
  • Coverage
    Disability income protection insurance pays a benefit for disability resulting from a covered injury or sickness. Benefits begin at the end of the elimination period and continue while you are disabled up to the maximum benefit duration.

  • Benefit Amount
    You may elect a weekly benefit starting from $100/week up to a maximum of $1,250/week in increments of $25, not to exceed 60% of your covered earnings. This benefit will not be offset with any accumulated sick leave. Premiums are taken on a post tax basis and benefits are paid with no taxes taken from the amount.

Disability payments are not reduced if you are receiving sick pay.  Employees may be paid sick time and receive short-term disability benefits at the same time.

  • Elimination Period
    Benefits begin on the 30th consecutive calendar day of disability

  • Maximum Benefit Duration
    Benefits for one period of disability, will be paid up to a maximum of 22 weeks.

How Can I Enroll?

If you are a full or part time  benefit eligible employee who makes over $15,000 annually you can participate in the plan. If you are a new employee and wish to participate in the short term disability plan, you should complete the enrollment form and return it to your benefits administrator. The enrollment form can be downloaded from the link below:

Reminder: Amounts must be in increments of $25 from a minimum of $100 to a maximum of $1,250 per week or  60% of your earnings, which ever is less.
